Rachel and the boy had been in hiding more or less for five years. She had spent the bulk of that time looking over her shoulder and running from Dawn’s insane mother. Rachel had been alone taking care of Dawn’s bouncing baby boy all by herself for five years. There had been times when she had wondered about the wisdom of leaving her to raise the boy with only a limited knowledge of the magic she had been given. At the time she didn’t understand that all of Dawn’s ability and talents had been poured into her the moment the boy had been born and Dawn’s life ended. If she had known that she was signing up to be Lawson’s guardian she may not had been to eager to help. Of course she loved the boy but she had struggled for years to get by and keep them both feed.

She had found herself alone at 18 years old with a child that was not hers and no real good way to explain it, so she just ditched everything and made a run for it. Not like she had any other choice since Dawn’s mother was after the boy.

She had tried to explain his heritage to him as he had been growing up and she guessed he had an understanding. Rachel had protected the boy from Dawn’s mother at every turn.

As time had went on she had found out that Dawn’s mother’s name was Abigail, and that she had lived for very close to three hundred plus years. Rachel knew enough to not directly challenge Abigail but she had managed to trick her several times and keep a decent amount of distance between them.

Rachel however had been growing tired of running, and she had been ready to go back home for a while. She had not seen her parents in almost five years. So when she had gotten back into town a couple of weeks ago she had lined up the substitute teaching job quickly and found an apartment close by. She had observed the school for a while.

Generally her plan was very simple. She needed to build a magical family of her own. A group that would afford her the ability to say home and build her own life, She just need a few people she could trust. Of course she had tried this plan before but for whatever reason the men she had approached in the years since seemed far less interesting that she thought possible and to be honest ever since Dawn had passed her magic over to her she had been more attracted to those of a female persuasion any way. She figured it was a lingering after affect of Dawn in the magic she had given to her. Which explained a lot about why Abigail had to wait so long for a grandson.

Still it had been strange really and had taken some serious getting use to. Rachel who had always been into guys, now found herself more and more attracted to women. Of course she had not acted on that impulse because in the end she didn’t feel like it was right. Because She liked guys it was just an affect of the magic so she had stayed away from her feelings for the past few years.

But now after watching the school and looking for people to help her in her quest to build a magical family to rival Abigail’s she had been attracted to the two twins that seemed to be at the top of the social food chain in the school.

She dug into their past a little and the more she had learned, the more she had grown to like them. In particular Sarah who seemed to be smart and self-reliant. She was very creative and despite the shadow her sister Samantha cast on her she had made her own life a good one.

She only slightly disliked cursing Samantha. She remembered not so many years ago a stranger had cursed her and she remembered how that had thrown her life down the path that she walked now. It was not done in the same malice that Abigail had cursed her years ago and she had always intended it to end at a certain point.

She hoped that Sarah would be able to accept that. If not she may have alienated the one person she wanted for her group, and maybe as something else. She was not blind to the feelings that Sarah had awakened in her. Of course she very seriously doubted that she would act on those feelings, other than to try and introduce her into the magical world that she lived in.

As Samantha finished getting back to normal or at least her new normal Rachel’s eyes caught Sarah’s and the two shared a smile. She was pretty sure that while Sarah didn’t know for sure she had a feeling that Sarah knew something was going on.

Rachel went over to Samantha and helped cover the mostly nude girl. While she had done what she felt she needed to she didn’t want to embarrass the girl any further than she already had. She guessed that was what made her different from Abigail in the end. Abigail would hurt people just on a whim and not stop hurting them even after her point was made. Rachel was not above making a point but once it was made, it was made there was no reason keep on at it.

What happened once she got the now not so identical twin to the office was almost text book. She managed to sneak a not into Sarah’s things and she made sure the girls got picked up by their mother. They would no doubt go to the hospital to have Samantha checked out.
The note would explain what had happened and that she wanted meet with her at a later time. She could only hope when the time came that Sarah would meet her that she would hear her out.

It was going to be a long day of waiting, but by ten that night she would know if Sarah would be an person that she could trust or not. Until then she would just have to be patient and wait. If there was one thing that running for 5 years made you though it was inpatient.
Despite the shared look that she and Sarah had shared earlier she had no idea how she would react to the letter. She figured that at the very least Sarah would be curious as to how it was done.

After hours of drudgery Rachel was at the park where she had met Sarah for the first time in person. Lawson was very nearby and as such Rachel watched his every move. She did not sense Abigail but she also understood that the old woman was crafty and so she was always at the ready.

Rachel had scanned the park for the hundredth time when Sarah at last came walking into the light. The note clinched tightly in her right hand. A look on her face that was completely uncomprehending. “You did that to my sister? How did you do that?” She almost screamed the last part. Her hands were shaking and Rachel could sense anger in her voice.

Rachel’s heart sank a little she had hoped for a better reaction. She had hoped that Sarah would be much more open-minded. Instead she seemed very upset. “I can explain if you will just calm down.”

Sarah rushed Rachel with what she perceived to be ill intent and so before she could reach her fist raised high Rachel for all intensive purposes hit pause, and Just like that Sarah was frozen in place. “Oh God please let me go.”

This was not going at all how Rachel had hoped. Things were getting out of hand far more quickly than she had hoped.  “Just listen to me for a minute, please.” She hoped that she didn’t sound as desperate as she was. Something changed in Sarah’s eyes and Rachel thought that maybe she could continue. With the wave of her hand Sarah was able to move.

“You had better start explaining or I’m out of here.” Rachel was trying to put her words together so she could explain. When the hairs on her neck started to stand up. She broke eye contact with Sarah and did another quick scan of the park.

Lawson was not in her sight. Sarah was becoming impenitent wanting an explanation but right now something else was happening. The just like that Abigail was standing by the swing with the boy in her arms. Rachel had let the old woman get the drop on her.

“You put the boy down right now Abigail.” Rachel moved as quickly as she could and was almost on the old woman and the boy. The old woman laughed almost in Rachel’s face. “Who do you think you are child, to think of laying a hand upon me?” Rachel’s blood ran cold at the words as they echoed the first words that the old woman had ever spoke to Rachel years ago in the library.

Abigail quickly retreated away from Rachel not wanted to be so close to her. “Don’t you see girl you are beaten. Now it is best if you leave the boy and his upbringing to me and my family.” Lawson was scared but wasn’t crying.

All of this was going on right in front of Sarah who was completely lost in everything that was going on. She wanted an explanation but knew that now was not the time. But she didn’t understand how much danger she was in. Rachel understood how dangerous things were becoming.

She had been stupid coming home; she had been stupid trying to bring this girl into things. She had made a mess, She had to find a way to defuse this situation and get everyone away from Abigail. She had to go back on the run again.

“I can sense that you are unsure of what to do first. It’s very simple you can leave with the little girl you brought along or you can try to save everyone and fail. You or the girl will end up cursed. And there will be no way for you to reverse it. I understand that my silly daughter gave you her magic but you don’t need the magic any more because the boy is not in any kind of danger from me and so you lose the magic soon.”

Rachel didn’t want to believe her. She felt like she was lying. She acted quickly flinging everything she could at the old woman trying to throw her off balance. For a moment it worked and Lawson being the child that he was squirmed down and away from his grandmother and rushed toward the only mother he knew in Rachel. She grabbed him up in her arms and turned to run screaming as she started for Sarah to follow suit.

Only Sarah was not as quick on the up take as Rachel had hoped. She was hit with a spell or curse from Abigail before she could get started running. She was knocked down and Rachel had to act quickly to bring Sarah into her sphere and speed the three of them away as quickly as she could.

She heard the old woman’s last words before they escaped “grow, you won’t be able to hide her from me for very long girl.” Rachel’s heart sank. The young girl she had brought into this was now cursed like she had been years ago, and she knew that there would be a heavy cost to get that spell off the girl who was out cold and over her shoulder she wouldn’t be able to carry her for very long as she would get to large and heavy for the speed she was trying to keep. She could already tell the girl was getting bigger.

Rachel wanted to scream about how silly and stupid she had been. The only thing she had done right was to protect the boy who was now fast asleep in her arm. Once they reached the apartment she had gotten them she laid the boy down to sleep and put the girl on the couch. The girl was already bigger than the length of the couch. She would have to do something soon.

Abigail was right before long Sarah would be big enough to where no matter where they went she wouldn’t be able to hide the now growing girl. Rachel watched as the girls pants legs crept up her legs going from ankle length to calf length in a few moments. Seams slipped and buttons popped. The shirt she wore slipped up higher on her mid section. The girl was going to be much to big before very long. Rachel did everything she could and used everything she knew to slow the growth down but it didn’t seem to work completely. While the girl was not a giantess yet she was much larger than she had been.

What none of them knew was that at that very same moment across town Sarah’s twin sister was also growing just like her sister, and she was not getting the benefit of the slow down that Sarah had gotten.

When Abigail had flung the spell at Sarah it had attached it’s self to both sisters since it couldn’t tell the apart. So now the curse would really be double trouble.
Rachel is desperate to bring someone into the world of magic she now lives in. She hopes Sarah is the right person. But the past catches up to her and her plans go out the window as she has to deal with a growing problem. Slight growth in this section.

I can see where this is going, and I like it. If Sarah slowed her growth and she was the good-willed one, and Samantha kept going at the same speed with her evil intents, who knows what might happen! I really look forward to part 3!!
